As a parent and the co-founder of a Tumbling and Ninja Warrior Gym for Kids of all Ages, I can’t stress enough how important physical activity is for children’s development. Exercise not only helps children build strong muscles and bones but also supports their mental and emotional well-being. Unfortunately, many children today are not getting enough physical activity due to screen time, sedentary lifestyles, and busy schedules.
This issue hits close to home for me as a mother of two kids, Makena and Kailer. Both of them love being outdoors, playing baseball, and riding horses, and I know firsthand how much better they feel when they are active. When they’re not getting enough exercise, I notice they become irritable, restless, and have difficulty sleeping.
That’s why I make it a priority to encourage physical activity in my children’s lives. I try to involve them in activities they enjoy, whether it’s riding bikes, playing soccer, or simply going for a walk as a family. I also limit their screen time and encourage them to play outside whenever possible.
Of course, it’s not always easy to get children to be active, especially if they are not naturally drawn to sports or physical activities. But by setting a good example, making it fun, and being consistent, parents can help their children develop healthy habits for life. The benefits of physical activity go far beyond the physical; they also contribute to a child’s emotional and social growth, and can help them feel more confident and self-assured.
As a parent and a professional in the field of physical education, I strongly encourage parents to make physical activity a priority in their children’s lives. It doesn’t have to be complicated or time-consuming; simple activities like playing catch or picking up pickle ball together can make a big difference. By helping our children develop healthy habits from an early age, we’re giving them the best possible start in life. What do you and your family like to do together?
